Comprehensive Trailer Training in Wimborne

If you want to drive your vehicle with a trailer attached, you may find you require an additional licence to do so. However, knowing if you need to undergo trailer training can be a little confusing, as it depends on when you passed your Category B car test. If you passed your Category B test before January 1^st 1997, you are legally entitled to drive a vehicle with a heavy trailer up to 8.25 tonne MAM. To tow anything heavier than this, you will need to upgrade to the Category C1E (7.5 tonne and trailer) or Category CE (articulated HGV) licence entitlements.

For anyone who passed their Category B test after January 1^st 1997, you are legally entitled to drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonne MAM with a trailer up to 750kg MAM. However, you can drive a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined weight of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3.5 tonne.
