LGV TRAINING

LGV Training in Hampshire, Dorset & the South West

If you’re searching for professional LGV training in Hampshire, Dorset and the South West, look no further than MSM Training. From large haulage companies to private individuals looking to take the next step in their career, our training courses are an invaluable resource. Each of our courses is delivered in-line with the latest licensing regulations by DVSA approved instructors.

To help you gain a complete working knowledge of how to operate a large goods vehicle safely, our instructors will cover all the bases. Your LGV driver training will take place both in the classroom and our outdoor testing facilities where you’ll be put behind the wheel of one of our training LGV’s. This combination of theory and practical training will set you on the road to becoming a safe and responsible driver.

If you’re unsure as to which license is right for you, we will discuss your requirements such as the job role that you will be undertaking. This will then enable us to recommend the appropriate LGV training that will unlock the license category that is relevant to you. To learn more about each of these categories, please read on further.

CATEGORY C1

This category is required by ambulance drivers.

The Category C1 license is perfect for those looking to operate a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes MAM (Maximum Authorised Mass). To qualify for this LGV training course, you must be 18 years or older, and it’s worth noting that this license limits the weight limit for any trailer being towed – the trailer must be no bigger than 750kg.

If you already possess the older LGV Class 3 license, then the Category C1 will effectively replace it. It will also serve as a necessary requirement for some horsebox owners and all ambulance drivers. Prior to completing your LGV driver training, our team will assist you with obtaining the relevant provisional entitlements which are the D2 and D4 forms.

This medium sized lorry driver training course can be completed in as little as two days.

Minibus Driver Training in Dorset and Hampshire

CATEGORY C1+E

With the Category C1+E license, you will have the benefits of the Category C1 license but will also be able to tow a trailer over the 750kg imposed limit. There are, however, still limitations to consider when taking this LGV training course. For instance, a fully loaded trailer cannot exceed the weight of the vehicle that is towing it. The maximum combined weight limit is set at 12,000kg or 12 tonnes MAM.

In the case of drivers who passed their test before 1997, the Category C1+E entitlement will already be listed on your license. However, due to changes in the current legislation, you must still apply for a provisional C1+E license to continue towing a trailer. This includes LGV driver training, a medical examination and a two-part theory test.

This medium sized lorry and trailer driver training course can be completed in as little as two days.

Those who apply for this LGV training course will receive the Category C1 license as well as the Category C Rigid license. With this license, you will be permitted to drive any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes MAM with no upper weight limit – the average Cat C rigid vehicle is 18 tonnes.

You will still be limited to the maximum weight of any trailer that you tow – no more than 750kg. Furthermore, our forklift training and Hiab training courses will help you to get the most out of our driver training programme.

This LGV training course can be completed in as little as five days.
